Questions about Verus

What is Verus Surgical Consultants?

Verus provides AI-powered surgical clarity and surgeon-verified consultations for patients facing cardiac surgery decisions. We deliver comprehensive MyVerus Reports within 72 hours that include your STS risk score, guideline classification, surgeon and hospital benchmarks, and personalized recommendations - giving you all your options, not just an answer.

How is Verus different from traditional second opinion services?

We are not a second opinion provider. We are a surgical double-check. Traditional second opinion programs serve only 1-2% of patients with rare or complex cases. Verus is built for the other 99% - every patient facing cardiac surgery deserves to know their options, risk profile, and quality benchmarks before making life-altering decisions. We consult, we don't operate.

What does "Your incision should be your decision" mean?

This is our core belief; that patients should have complete information about their surgical options, risk factors, and provider quality before consenting to heart surgery. Too often, patients agree to operations without understanding alternatives, their personalized risk, or how their surgeon and hospital compare to national standards.

I'm not sure I need cardiac surgery. Can Verus help?

Absolutely. Many of our patients come to us uncertain about their surgical recommendation. Our surgical double-check includes guideline classification (Class I, IIa, IIb, III) that clearly indicates whether surgery is strongly recommended, reasonable, uncertain, or not recommended based on current medical standards. We provide all your options, not just an answer.

Do I need to be referred by my doctor to use Verus?

No, referral is not required. You can apply for Verus services directly by completing this form, though we encourage you to discuss our recommendations with your treating physicians as part of your decision-making process.

What heart conditions does Verus review?

We specialize in all adult cardiac surgery conditions including coronary artery disease (CABG), valve disorders (repair/replacement), aortic surgery, and combined procedures. Our multidisciplinary approach also covers interventional cardiology alternatives like TAVR and complex PCI.

How does your AI technology work?

Our AI assists with data extraction, STS risk calculation, and guideline mapping, but every clinical decision and recommendation is made by experienced human surgeons. Verus AI enhances accuracy and efficiency - it never replaces physician judgment.

Are your consulting surgeons board-certified?

Our consulting surgeons are board-eligible or board-certified in cardiothoracic surgery with active medical licenses and professional liability coverage. Specific credentials are available on individual surgeon profiles.

What medical records will I need to provide?

We'll need your complete cardiac workup including recent cardiac catheterization, echocardiogram, EKG, chest X-ray, lab results, and any CT or MRI scans. Our team will guide you on specific requirements and can help obtain missing records from your providers.

How long does the Verus review process take?

Our target is 72 hours from complete record receipt and payment to delivery of your MyVerusTM Report. Complex cases may take slightly longer, but we maintain close communication about timing throughout the process.

What's included in my MyVerus Report?

Your MyVerusTM report includes: AI-calculated STS risk score (verified by our surgeon), guideline classification for your condition, imaging and diagnostic review, surgeon and hospital quality benchmarks, treatment alternatives analysis, and a personalized summary signed by your consulting surgeon.

Can I speak directly with the reviewing cardiologist?

Yes, every case includes a live consultation with a board certified cardiac surgeon. This isn't just a written review - you'll have direct conversation time to ask questions and discuss your specific situation.

What if my imaging studies are on CD or stored at the hospital?

We provide postage paid mail-in kits for physical records that need to be digitized. Once we receive these, we start working on your report. Our team may also be able to help coordinate with your hospital's medical records department to obtain digital copies of your imaging.

Do you provide emergency consultations?

No, Verus is not designed for emergency situations. If you're experiencing chest pain, shortness of breath, or other urgent symptoms, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room immediately.

What's the difference between your service tiers?
  • Verus Core: Chart review with one surgeon
  • Verus Advanced: Chart plus comprehensive imaging review
  • Verus Multi: Surgeon plus cardiologist review
  • Concierge CORE: Includes 24/7 surgeon until day of surgery
  • Concierge PLUS: Includes 24/7 surgeon access until discharge

This isn't a call center - you communicate directly with experienced surgeons who understand your case and can provide personalized guidance when questions arise.

How does your AI technology work?
