Should I choose a mechanical or tissue valve replacement?
In younger patients (<50–55), mechanical valves are often chosen for durability, provided you can manage anticoagulation. In older patients (>65–70), tissue valves are preferred to avoid warfarin. The gray zone (55–65) requires individualized discussion.
Lifestyle factors also matter: pregnancy plans, playing contact sports, or living far from medical care may push the choice toward tissue despite higher reoperation risk.
